"Southern District Rehab Access"Adopts Autotoll Fleet Management and Reservation Service System
To provide barrier-free transportation services in Southern District and thus to promote a caring and friendly community.

The Southern District Council, in cooperation with the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation, and the project technology provider - Autotoll, launched "Southern District Rehab Access (SDRA)" as five-year project. It provides barrier-free transportation services for the disabilities and their carers in order to travel to public hospitals and medical institutions in Southern District.

The Southern District Council and SDRA have taken the lead to apply information and communication technology in social welfare and business fields. With the fleet management and reservation service system support from Autotoll, it lessen the burden in manual operation procedures and the traffic inconvenience encountered by patients during attending medical appointment. The service was first launched in the Southern District at 2020 and has been welcomed by people with disabilities and elderly. The daily booking rate is 80% in average and served more than 50,000 beneficiaries as of May 2022.

 

The online platform of SDRA formed an integrated operating system. It allows operation personnel to easily handle the availability of dispatched drivers and vehicles, route planning, schedule and job dispatch. Frontline personnel can obtain work related information through mobile applications, while logistics team can directly monitor routes, service operations, performance statistics and management reports at the center.

Business Development Manager of Autotoll International Limited, Mr. Troy Cheng said, “Hong Kong government devoted to build a smart city in recent years. With the popularization of 5G technology, more innovative technologies will be applied rapidly. The pick-up service platform of SDRA allows passengers to make service appointments through the mobile app without calling the service center. It can also cooperate with the quality monitoring function to ensure service quality, which is convenient and easy to use. On average, each passenger could complete the reservation on the platform within 5 minutes, and the operation center staff only need 30 minutes of training to master the basic operation of the platform.”

 

“We understand that people with disabilities, wheelchair users and their families often experience difficulties in transportation when they attend medical appointments. Therefore, a convenient and comfortable transport booking service could definitely solve their obstacles. SDRA system is designed according to the needs of our target users and the quality control mechanism. Following the success of the initial rollout, we plan to introduce the service to other districts in the coming years to enhance the overall service quality of NGO transport services used by persons with disabilities. In the long run, we hope that NGOs can strengthen the application of technology in barrier-free transport services, which will greatly enhance social welfare and travel efficiency, especially for people with disabilities. We hope to make this service regular and extend it to other parts of Hong Kong.” Said by the manager of the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation, Ms. Leanna Chow.
